There doesn’t seem to be any place to report them, so I figured I’d make a thread for them here.

When quoting a post on the forum, or when editing a post, HTML tags are added which are then ignored and directly displayed in the post when submitting again. This is something that broke in the past couple hours, as I managed to edit earlier post multiple times without having to remove HTML tags every time.

Bold text and italics don’t work on the forums. You can use the tags, but it will display as normal text instead. The tags are kept internally (when editing the post they’re still there), but they just don’t do anything with the text.

There’s no option to “Mark All Threads As Read.” Actually, this forum seems to be mising a lot of common forum options.

Preview post would be mighty useful…

And I seem to get the HTML bug every time I edit my posts.

The bugs list – fixes will be updated here:

—————-
HTML code when editing
I found & applied a fix for the HTML code bug earlier, but had to remove it when I realized that it broke the HTML code in the rest of the site (doh!) Bear with me and I’ll try find a fix that works without breaking the rest of the site.

-> I have a solution for this, but I’ll have to manually reformat all the existing pages. It’s in the work queue – please bear with me while I get to it.

—————-
Font formatting not working

—————-
‘New’ thread icon is quite random. At times it will only be one thread, at other times every thread. This is even when there has been no activity for a couple days.

—————-
‘Mark all threads as read’ function [ADDRESSED]

-> There actually is a ‘Mark All Read’ button above the Info Panel toward the bottom of the forum top page. However, it doesn’t work as you would expect. This from the the forum developer:

“It is calculated by the last visit (time) vs. time of last post in the thread. Therefore it will not change unless the user either responds to the post or just waits until their next visit.”

Apparently it’s a feature, not a bug 😉

“That’s actually how it’s supposed to work. If you reply to the topic then the icon will change otherwise it stays. Here’s how it works: “New topics since your last visit” not “new unread topics”. It uses a time-stamp in a cookie compared with your last visit time to calculate new posts. It would require way too many SQL queries to track thousands of members views on thousands of posts. Your database size would explode and the site would slow down.”

Something I am noticing. It is quite random in showing what threads are ‘new’. At times it will only be one thread, at other times every thread. This is even when there has been no activity for a couple days.

Hm. Thanks for the note. I’m planning on spending some quality time fixing the forum over the next week and I’ll have a look into this. I’ll add it to the bugs list above for now.

Ta!

I’m guessing that you never had time to fix the forum as I have exactly the same unread posts issue that the previous poster reported (I’m frequently told that there are unread posts in the Forum Rules thread, for instance!). This is a cosmetic issue really as I can always check the date stamp on the right hand side to see when the most recent post was.

It would be nice if you could implement a fix that prevented the edit function from inserting loads of garbage in my posts, though (I’m quite capable of filling my posts with my own garbage, thank you very much 😛 )!

Sorry, yes – these are frustrating and we have been trying to address, but are at the mercy of the forum developer.
Bear with us – we haven’t given up yet!
