Okay, let’s put this topic to bed!

It’s fairly well documented that we were considering changing the title of Fairy Bloom Freesia to something a bit more representative of the game content (not necessarily “Fighting Fairy”), but there were a few people who indicated they would prefer the original name.

Unfortunately, this forum does not support polls, so I’d like to ask for a show of hands…
The question is:

“Are you for or against using Fairy Bloom Freesia as the overseas title for this game?”

If against, please feel free to give suggestions!

The more responses we get, the better & *PLEASE* be nice, guys! 😉

I’ll repeat what I said in the first thread: the only problem I see with the original name is the fairy bit, which might “scare” those who dislike (or can’t admit to like) cutesy stuff. But since those people are unlikely to buy the game in the first place, the point is moot. So, IMO, you should either remove the fairy from the title (you already said you won’t) or keep the original.

I vote for keeping the original title. I could see the merit in changing the title if this was a mainstream release but given that the market for this game will already have a degree of familiarity with Japanese games/culture, I don’t think you need to worry too much about potential customers being put off. Besides, I quite like the fact that the Japanese seem to name their games by picking out several random words from a dictionary. 😉

I suggest using the original title as it’s so bizarre. “Fighting fairy” sounds kinda generic. Though if you absolutetly must have a different title may I suggest Fighting Fairy Fressia. It’s at least better than just being fighting fairy.

Just keep the original title. It is what we know from the original release and it would be better to keep it.

I’m glad you’re considering keeping the original title and greatly appreciate that you’re asking for our opinions on the matter.

Personally, I feel that excessive localization detracts from the original material, encourages a narrower world perspective and creates unnecessary confusion. When I work with translations, I always try to stay as close to the original as I can. However, I do acknowledge the problems associated with marketing to a different locale.

In this case, I agree that most of the people interested in this game are probably already familiar with Japanese culture and likely won’t judge this game solely by its title. If there is still concern regarding the title’s ambiguity, I would like to suggest the possibility of using a sub-title. For example, “Fairy Bloom Freesia ~Fight for the Forest~” or something along those lines.

Also, if it’s not too late, I would like to request that the English logo (and general interface/font) retain the look and feel of the original. As an example, here is a title logo image that I edited last year. I’m not sure about the legality of the fonts I used, but if you’d like, please feel free to use or modify my edit as you see fit.

Not sure if I’m a bit late to the party here, but I’m going to put my two cents on just keeping the original title. Just preference on my side, but I do find “Fighting Fairy” an uninteresting name (doesn’t really feel like a name that would attract/hold ones attention).

Same as Inuzagi, I find “Fighting Fairy” uninteresting. Please keep the original title.
